Q: What kinds of clients do you have and what are they looking for from you?
McGregor: Corporate clients are looking for speechwriting. Think tank clients are looking for multiple ways to market their books, events and fellows. Trade associations are trying to match communications products to strategic objectives.

Q: What particular moment have you liked most in working for a client here?
McGregor: Lots of times come to mind. Finishing an event for a client where it has been seen as a success in their eyes AND in mine. Hitting the mark with a speech the first time. Brainstorming with a client and having them satisfied that it was helpful.

Q: Do you have a personal measure of success with your clients?
McGregor: Clients who keep coming back.

Bio:   Katy McGregor has more than two decades of public- and private-sector experience for her corporate, legal and public affairs clients of the Writers Group. In recent years, she has helped devise strategies and manage messages for clients in diverse fields ranging from telecom to financial services, trade associations and major academic institutions.

Before joining the White House Writers Group, Katy served in the Congressional Affairs Office of U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills. She was also a member of the White House lobbying team for NAFTA, and for the Uruguay Round of the GATT agreement.

Katy had also previously worked for the National Restaurant Association, where she served as a tax lobbyist on Capitol Hill. She was later named the Association's Director for State Relations and Grassroots Programs, a key management position responsible for implementing national strategies.

A graduate of Arizona State University, Katy also worked as the communications director for the House Science Committee. She began her career as a legislative assistant to Sen. John McCain.
